Learning to Compost

What's stinky and smelly but good for our Eco System? The answer is COMPOST!
The X Man has been coming into our classroom this week to teach us about composting. He has taught us about what to put into our compost and what not to put in it. He also taught us about what is needed in order for things like food scraps to biodegrade. These things are heat, water, bugs and air. That is why food in landfills cannot decompose properly.
We are having a great time learning about these things and Mr X is awesome!

What other things have you learnt about composting?

  1. In ONE month the landfill can get as high as 30 stories and as wide as a football field!

  2. I learnt that there are two different types of things you can put in your compost. There are the things that are nitrogen and they are wet, green and fresh. There are also the things that are carbon and they are dry, brown and dead.

Handy hint for composting: If it is nature of from nature it can be composted.

  3. I learnt that you cant put apples, oranges or bannanas (a.k.a) Fruit in the landfill because it will just break down and make more of that stinky rubbish juice.
