Syndicate Assembly

Today Miro 13 held our first syndicate assembly. Ahh! The songs didn't work, we had to skip out the songs but we had lots to share anyway. 6 of our class members shared the ANZAC poems they wrote.

Two people from every class got awarded the star of the week.

Biscuit Time!

Yum yum yum! We made delicious ANZAC biscuits today. First we were put into groups where we made our own batches of biscuits. We put flour, sugar, coconut and rolled oats into a bowl. We put butter into a bowl and melted it with golden syrup and vanilla essence. Then we mixed the baking powder with hot water and then added it to the butter mixture. We made a well in the dry ingredients and then poured the butter mixture in. All we had to do after that was stir the mixture. It looked really nice before it was even cooked. We rolled it into balls and put it on a tray and used a fork to flatten it down a little bit. In the oven it went!
The mixture spread and we ended up having one big cookie on each tray! It was cut up after that and we ate them!
We devoured the biscuits like a cookie monster!

Our tasty biscuits!

Soldier Poem

Today we read a poem about a soldier in war. Then we wrote a poem as a whole class.
After we wrote this poem together we all wrote our own about being a soldier in the war.

ANZAC Assembly

Remembering everyone who died in war was why we had an assembly today. We sung songs that were very old songs from the war. They were called Pack up your Troubles and A Long Way to Tipperary. Some people shared medals from their great grandparents and some people told stories. We rose the flag to half mast to remember the ones that died. We made some poppies in class and we will wear them to show respect on ANZAC Day which is tomorrow.
Our whole school at our special ANZAC Assembly.

ANZAC stands for Australia New Zealand Army Corp.

Do you have any stories, maybe to do with your relatives, that are about war?

Grandparents Day!

This tower looked promising at the beginning
Today we had Grandparents day at our school. We invited our Grandparents to a special assembly where we showed them our singing and dancing talents. Then we took them back to our classroom and we did some fun activities with them! We had a quiz about Science and then we had a challenge! The challenge was to build the tallest tower made only from marshmallows and uncooked spaghetti. We made a lot of noise but had a lot of fun! We all really enjoyed having our grandparents at school!
This ended up being the winning tower! Well done!

Everyone worked together well on this tower!

This was a fantastic looking tower!
The Grandparents had a lot of fun making the towers as well as us!
There was a lot of excitement in this group! It kept on falling over!
